| Mike Wendland wrote
a great article in the Detroit Free Press about his use of a
Tablet PC.
I remember a while ago quoting one of Mike's
articles and then posting a follow-up on it to correct a small
bit of misinformation.
In my case, Mike's preaching to the choir.
Now if the powers that be who handle marketing for Tablet PCs
read it and pay attention, maybe there will be a better chance
that they'll help their partners get more marketing out there.
In my favorite quote from the article, Mike
asks "Hear me, Microsoft? You need a Tablet evangelization
campaign. The public doesn't know what it's missing."
Recently, we've seen more ads from Toshiba and
Gateway that include Tablet PCs, although they may not call them
that. You'll hear them called convertible notebooks.
Kudos to Gateway for including one in their ad promotion with
Best Buy!
Many of the ones in stores may not have the
stylus or end up being demo'd by a salesperson who doesn't
understand what all a Tablet does. I can't tell you the
amount of times that I've been in a store looking at one and
actually had a salesperson try to talk me into a regular
notebook because it was cheaper.
We need to see more brands and models of
Tablet PCs in the stores and show the sales force what they're
capable of doing. You can't sell them if people can't see
them. It's hard to spend the kind of money a good Tablet
demands if you can't even try it first. It's not all about
business and enterprise. These Tablets are one of the best
computers for students in almost any field.
Mike's absolutely on target when he talks
about how useful a Tablet PC is and how important more marketing
is to its overall success.
